Farmer’s Market Tour Information

Dog Wants Out is a community music project currently dedicated to supporting and promoting local food events through a growing season tour of Maine farmer's markets and local food events.  DWO plays "alternative funtry" music with a folk sensibility.  Our set list is designed to provide hum-along opportunities for the farmer's market crowd and includes "He Thinks my Tractor's Sexy," "Jive Talkin'," "A Place in the Choir," and "Harvest Moon."

Because DWO is a purpose-driven community music program, those who arrange for a performance should expect that the group will present materials and information in support of its local food and community-building mission at every event.

Goals

·         Raise awareness regarding local food production and local food systems in Maine

·         Build community through music

·         Provide a pilot program for the Maine CommUnity Music Project

Booking and Financial Policy

DWO is an initiative of the Maine CommUnity Music Project, a non-commercial music program associated with the Unity Barn Raisers, a 501(c)(3) community-building non-profit based in Unity Maine.  DWO members are volunteers who receive no compensation for their performances and recordings.
Donations to the Maine Community Music Project are tax deductable.  Checks may be made out to "Unity Barn Raisers" with "Maine Community Music Project" in the memo line.

Members of DWO may pass along cash donations to the Maine CommUnity Music Project, but cannot provide receipt of donation for tax purposes.

DWO is a volunteer group playing music in support of its local food mission.  The suggested donation structure below for support of the DWO farmer’s market tour is based on the relevance to the program mission of each event type.  Hence general events are opportunities for DWO to advance the program mission through raising awareness, and accepting project donations.  Farmer’s markets are more direct opportunities for the band to pursue their mission.

Performance Needs

DWO is pretty darn self-sufficient; we're trying to make things easy for folks who are promoting local food.  We have sound equipment sufficient for a small outdoor or indoor event.  We have our own EZ up style awning.

Needs

  • Platform or dry ground and enclosed space or relatively dry weather (we know you can't control that, but we really can't play when we can't manage the moisture with our EZ up.)  If it's too wet we just can't play because of the electricity and the instruments.
  • Power supply - We usually need a single standard AC outlet within 50 ft of the performance site, but with notice we can even manage a battery-powered, or an unamplified show without that.  Obviously unamplified performances are considerable quieter and can be quite inconspicuous at outdoor venues.
